The more medicines you take, the more likely you are to suffer from Dry Mouth. Over-the-counter cold remedies, antihistamines, anti-depressants, some beta-blockers, anti-hypertensives and diuretics can all contribute to Dry Mouth.
Dry Mouth can be caused by many factors and when left untreated, it can significantly impact your oral health. You may also notice a red, parched look around the mouth and stickiness around the lips.
Water, candy, gum, mints and other ways to moisten your mouth can’t give you the same relief as Biotène moisturizing products that contain moisturizers and lubricants that help keep the mouth moist (plus, the sugar from gum and candy when combined with a lack of saliva, may increase the risk for tooth decay). By the time you’re actively managing your symptoms, chances are your saliva flow has already dropped at least 50%2, so don’t ignore it any longer.
Dry mouth can get worse at night; the reduced saliva flow slows down the removal of bacteria that can cause bad breath and even oral infection*.
*Biotène is not indicated for oral infection.
Dry mouth can make it more difficult or uncomfortable to speak or eat. Biotène moisturizing products can provide relief.
